Underwater Caves Cabarete. El Choco national park is known for its underwater caves, some shallow and some really deep and only available to certified cave divers. This video shows Cueva La Escalera and Cueva de los Murcielagos, 2 connected caves which offer a unique cave diving experience.
There are several other caves available to swimmers in the park, those are shallow, one a cenote about 8-10 feet in depth, the closest one to the entrance. The Choco National park is reached via El Callejon de La Loma, across Ocean One Cabarete.
This video was shot by the Dominican Republic Speleological Society, which has a mission of exploring, surveying and conserving submerged caves in the island of DR.
These Underwater Caves Cabarete are only 5 minutes away from the center of town, if you are a certified cave diver contact DRSS for more information; their website has a wealth of details on the Dominican Republic cave system, and important advice to those who try to explore submerged caves without proper training or clearance.
