Sports fishing in the Dominican Republic Atlantic Ocean can be a great experience, specially when you can get a private charter. Fish such as Mahi Mahi, Wahoo, Marlin, Tuna, Barracuda, Grouper, Red Snapper and Sailfish are found off the coast of Sosua and Puerto Plata, just minutes after departing from the bay. Other pelagic species are also found off the coast of Cabarete.

Most charters will depart early in the morning around 7:00am from the shores of Sosua Beach, where fishermen will be taken to the yachts in a fast boat from the beach to the bay.

The tours then follow a path of marker buoys in the open ocean, where big fish hunt the smaller ones. The Sosua fishing map shows the closest path to the bay where fishermen sail trolling the lures for big game. Clients keep the fish, though some fishermen keep some and leave the rest to the yacht crew.

The tours are available morning 8am-12 or 1-5pm in the afternoon and usually is best for groups of 10 people or less. Two yachts can be booked at the same time for a larger group, as a small tourney.
